The production of oranges reached 1.7 million tons in South Africa. The area in South Africa planted with oranges is estimated at 46,000 hectares. Oranges are the biggest citrus type produced in South Africa and account for 48% of the total citrus area planted. Oranges in South Africa are grown across the country mainly in the Limpopo, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Mpumalanga, Kwa Zulu Natal, Northern Cape and North West provinces, according to the report. Oranges account for roughly 60% of all South Africa’s citrus exports. European Union, Asia and the Middle East are South Africa’s top export destinations for fresh oranges.
